Battlefield 6 XP and unlocks
What each meter actually levels, and which grind is a waste after the Portal nerf.
Battlefield 6 tracks more than one number. Career rank, class rank, weapon mastery, vehicle mastery, and Battle Pass paths all take XP from the same match and spend it in different shops. If you do not know which meter you are feeding, you will unlock a skin when you wanted a barrel. This page is the progression map. Pair it with loadouts so you only master guns you will shoot, and with codes so boosts land on Double XP weekends instead of a Portal joke server.
The four meters
Career rank is the global level. It unlocks some gadgets for every class (long-range launchers and intercept tools sit here in the 20s–30s) and is the gate for class assignments around rank 20.
Class rank levels Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon separately. Gadgets, training paths, and class cosmetics live here. Playing Recon does not finish your Support bag. Pick a main from the class guide and stay on it for a week.
Weapon and vehicle mastery is Hardware XP. Attachments, optics, shells, and countermeasures. This is the slow one. A Hardware XP weekend is worth more than a Battle Pass skip if you actually use the gun.
Battle Pass is seasonal. Season 4’s guns are on paths, not in a loot box: VSSM on Recruit 5, EF88 on Benthic Tomb 11, BROD 3 on Night Parade 11, Interdictor later via event. Ten Battle Pass points per level, or coins if you refuse to play. See Season 4 for the path names.
How to unlock a gun without lying to yourself
- Check whether it is default (M433), career rank (DRS-IAR around rank 9), an assignment (SG 553R, SCW-10), or a pass gun.
- If it is an assignment, read the challenge in the menu. Do not invent a Trello.
- If it is a pass gun, play the path. Do not shelf a built KORD for an unmastered EF88.
- Mastery XP on a C-tier novelty is how you stay bad. The weapon tier list is the unlock order, not a personality test.
Closed-weapon playlists still let carbines, DMRs, and shotguns through. That is why M4A1 remains a universal first unlock even when you main Support.
XP that counts
Official All-Out Warfare and verified Portal experiences with humans pay the meters you think they pay. Bot farms do not. After the Portal nerf, bot lobbies need real players to start and pay reduced XP; challenges often ignore bot kills. Details on the Portal guide.
Campaign mission challenges can drop small boosts and cosmetics. They do not replace a Conquest night. The campaign walkthrough lists the collectible rewards if you are already replaying missions.
REDSEC shares the gunsmith family. Armor and loot change how a gun feels, but Hardware XP you earn in the royale still attaches to the same receiver. The REDSEC guide covers the drop economy; this page covers the meters.
Boosters without wasting them
Hardware, rank, and Battle Pass boosts are different items. A “full Double XP weekend” in early September 2026 stacked all three. That is when you finish a new Season 4 rifle or a vehicle tree. Do not pop a 60-minute booster five minutes before bed. Do not pop one in a mode you will quit. Track live drops on codes.
After Tidal Strike and into Season 5
Tidal Strike (September 15, 2026) is not a new Battle Pass. It is reticles, Tsuru Reef Breakthrough, proximity chat in REDSEC, AFK rules, and an anniversary event later in the month. Do not rebuild every class because a reticle shader changed.
Season 5 will add another pass, three maps, and Rapid Royale. Save leftover coins if you care about the next path. Do not pre-grind a Nevada leak gun that is not in your armory yet.
If you are new, ignore this page’s pass math. Play Support, copy one loadout, and let career rank happen. Progression is a side effect of flags, not the other way around.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common Battlefield 6 questions.
What should I unlock first in Battlefield 6?
A class you will play, then one S or A gun from the weapon tier list. Attachments on a gun you hate are wasted Hardware XP.
Can I still farm XP in Portal?
Not the way launch players did. Bot lobbies pay poorly and skip challenges. Verified human matches still progress. See Portal.
Do Battle Pass guns stay after the season?
Gameplay weapons stay in your armory once unlocked. Cosmetics are the part that rotates. Confirm on EA’s pass screen, not a screenshot.
