Battlefield 6 game modes
Tickets, sectors, M-COMs, and the seasonal playlists that actually change how you spawn.
A class and a gun do not tell you how a round ends. The mode does. Conquest is a simultaneous puzzle. Breakthrough is a funnel. Rush is a plant. Escalation changes which flags matter while you are still walking. Seasonal playlists — Strikepoint, Sabotage, Carrier Strike, Fighter Sweep — are shorter arguments with different spawn math. This page is the ruleset briefing. Use it with the maps guide and the class guide.
Closed-weapon and open-weapon versions of these modes share the same tickets. They do not share the same gun rules. If you are learning roles, queue closed. Details sit in getting started.
Conquest
The 64-player sandbox. Flags are live at once. Tickets bleed when the other team holds more of the map and when you die. You can ignore a flag. You can steal a vehicle spawn and never walk to the point. Support and Engineer decide more rounds than a 40-bomb Recon who never touches a capture zone.
On Tsuru Reef and Wake Island, Conquest is a logistics problem. Boats and transports are how you exist between islands. Read vehicles before you sprint into the surf.
Breakthrough
Attackers push sectors. Defenders hold until the tickets or the clock say otherwise. Smoke, revives, and spawn beacons beat a 400-meter overwatch that never walks forward. Tsuru Reef Breakthrough favored defenders hard through early Season 4; Tidal Strike on September 15, 2026 is the rework of capture zones, boat flanks, and spawns. Treat that layout as new until you die on it twice.
Rush
M-COM plants. Smaller than Breakthrough, meaner about one box. Attackers need a plant and a hold. Defenders need to hear the charge. Assault ladders and C-4 still cheat geometry. This is the mode that punishes people who play Conquest habits on a two-objective street.
Escalation
The newer capture mode that phases which points matter as the round evolves. You cannot camp the same flag for twenty minutes and call it a plan. When the active set rotates, your squad has to move. It is the mode that made Tsuru Reef look good in previews because the map is large enough to absorb a phase change without everyone stacking one hut.
Infantry cages
Team Deathmatch, Squad Deathmatch, Domination, King of the Hill, and maps like Empire State or Saints Quarter that starve vehicles. Shotguns and SMGs from the weapon tier list. Engineer is a rocket for cover, not a career. Support still prints tickets through revives even when there is no tank to repair.
Seasonal and limited modes
- Strikepoint (Season 1) — small 4v4. Aim and gadgets, not jets.
- Sabotage (Season 1) — 8v8, closer to a raid than a war.
- Carrier Strike (Season 4, August 18) — flight decks, jets, the Top Gun window. Two-seat F/A-81F Super Spectre and F-74A Seacat. If you cannot take off, you are a ticket.
- Fighter Sweep — jets-only Gauntlet mission from the same update.
- Tactical Obliteration (Season 3) — bomb carrier, smaller teams.
- REDSEC modes — Battle Royale, Gauntlet, Casual BR with bots, Ranked. Those live on the REDSEC guide, not here.
How to pick a queue tonight
Want Battlefield: Conquest or Breakthrough on Firestorm, Golmud, Tsuru Reef, Wake Island. Want a gunfight: infantry playlist. Want to host the rules: Portal. Want to know what just changed: patch notes and Tidal Strike.
A mode guide without a map is a pamphlet. After you pick the playlist, open the maps page for the layout in rotation and copy a loadout that matches the range, not the trailer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common Battlefield 6 questions.
What is the main Battlefield 6 mode?
Conquest for the sandbox, Breakthrough for the push. Most seasonal maps are built for both. Infantry playlists exist when you are tired of tanks.
Does Carrier Strike replace Conquest?
No. It is a limited aerial/naval ruleset from Season 4. Conquest is still the 64-player default.
Where is battle royale?
